Homework 2018-2019
The reading logs are proof your child is completing his/her homework. Please make sure your child turns it in on Thursday or Friday.
Read for 20 minutes every night
* Then ask comprehension questions such as:
* Who are the main characters?
* What was the problem in the story and how it was solved.
* If you had to be a character, who would you be and why?
* If you were the author, how would you change the story?
* If the story had a different setting, how would that affect the ending?
Math
* Practice Math facts up to 20 to make sure your child can tell you what is 8+7= without counting on their fingers. To make it easier, have your child make mental ten-frames. In this case, you would decompose the 7 to be 5+2. Then add 2+8 to make a 10. This makes it easier to add 10+5=15 so, 8+7=15.
* Have your child skip count by 2's, 5's, 10's, 100's. For a challenge you may have them skip count starting at a random number like 17 and then skip count. For an additional challenge have them skip count backwards. Example; 23, 20, 17, 14, 11, 8, 5, 2.
* Have your child identify and count coins
